India’s largest NBFC set out to build a transformative digital marketplace—one that would empower its extensive dealer network to sell consumer durables and lifestyle products on “No Cost EMI,” initially to its EMI Card customer base. The goal was ambitious: create a unified digital ecosystem that streamlined dealer participation, enabled rapid category expansion, and delivered a superior customer experience.

This case study explores the strategic vision, key challenges, and innovative technology solutions that shaped the evolution of this platform into India’s largest hyperlocal marketplace.

Business Challenge:

Bajaj Tech.AI was entrusted with designing, building, and scaling this digital commerce platform. The team was tasked with overcoming several critical challenges:

  • Create a scalable, reliable, and modular digital commerce platform that could support evolving business needs.
  • Build a dealer portal offering seamless onboarding and intuitive tools for daily price and inventory updates.
  • Reduce go-to-market (GTM) time for launching new product categories.
  • Enable comprehensive event tracking, ensuring every customer action was measurable and actionable.

Solution Overview:

To meet these objectives, BTS designed a future-ready ecosystem powered by a robust tech stack, custom-built dealer tools, dynamic category templates, and advanced analytics integrations.

The initiative resulted in a platform capable of handling high-volume traffic, accelerating category onboarding, and providing real-time operational visibility—setting new benchmarks for hyperlocal commerce enablement.

Cutting Edge Digital Platform and Technology Stack

BTS conducted a thorough evaluation of eCommerce engines available in the market and selected Magento Community Edition as the core backend engine. Magento offered the flexibility, modularity, and customization depth needed for:

  • Catalog management
  • Coupon and promotion creation
  • Cart and checkout workflows

Initially, Magento also served as the frontend presentation layer, with all key templates—Home, Category Landing, Product Listing, and Product Detail pages—built directly on the platform.

As the marketplace scaled, BTS recommended an upgrade to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) to streamline content authoring, improve publishing efficiency, and enhance the brand’s digital experience. All frontend templates were re-engineered in AEM using both static and dynamic components to support rapid changes.

For infrastructure and performance:

  • AWS ensured secure, scalable, cloud-based hosting.
  • Akamai enabled fast, reliable content delivery, ensuring consistently high site performance across geographies.

Together, this tech stack formed a durable foundation for a high-growth digital marketplace.

Dealer Portal: Empowering the Dealer Community 

A key business requirement was to create a robust portal for dealers—one that simplified onboarding, automated inventory management, and integrated seamlessly with the NBFC's CRM.

Since no market solution adequately addressed these needs, BTS built a custom dealer portal from the ground up.

Key Capabilities Delivered

  • One-click CRM Integration: Dealers accessed the portal directly through the NBFC’s CRM system.
  • Digital Onboarding: A complete e-sign enabled journey allowed dealers to review agreements and activate their seller accounts quickly.
  • Bulk Upload Tools: Dealers could upload price, inventory, and delivery timelines for eligible SKUs with ease.
  • Intuitive Inventory Dashboard: Clear visibility into active/inactive SKUs, with filtering and editing capabilities.
  • Parent–Child Dealer Management: Large dealers could manage inventory and pricing for their sub-dealers.
  • Push Inventory APIs: For high-volume dealers, APIs enabled real-time updates from their internal systems.

This portal became a critical enabler for dealer participation, operational efficiency, and marketplace scale.

Accelerating GTM: Dynamic Templates for New Categories

As the marketplace matured, expansion beyond consumer durables and lifestyle segments became a strategic priority. Launching categories such as the Auto Marketplace required additional page components, while still ensuring a consistent user experience.

To reduce the GTM timeline, BTS leveraged AEM’s dynamic templating capabilities. These templates allowed:

  • Faster rollout of new categories
  • Customizable layouts without heavy development
  • Seamless integration of category-specific components
  • Preservation of the platform’s overall look and feel

This approach led to a 30% improvement in GTM efficiency, enabling the business to launch new categories quickly and effectively.

Advanced Event Tracking and Analytics: 

To align with the NBFC’s mature offline data architecture, the eCommerce platform was equipped with Google Analytics (GA) Premium for comprehensive event tracking.

The BTS team collaborated closely with business stakeholders to identify and configure critical tracking requirements. Standard GA datalayer implementations were used for core eCommerce events such as:

  • Product Detail Views
  • Add to Cart actions
  • Checkout Initiation
  • Order Completion
  • Banner Impressions and Clicks

A key implementation principle was to capture the system-generated Customer ID for all events, ensuring consistent, reliable attribution across the customer journey.

Post-integration, advanced dashboards were built in Looker Studio, enabling:

  • Deep insights into customer behavior
  • Conversion funnel visibility
  • Category and campaign performance analysis

All GA data was also fed into the NBFC’s Data Warehouse, where it was combined with CRM and offline data to enable:

  • Integrated dashboards
  • Clickstream analysis
  • Propensity modelling
  • Cohort-level decision-making.
